Lecture 1 – Communicating Value in Veterinary Nutrition
That bag of food is HOW MUCH!” How does the nutrition-savvy RVT fit the therapeutic diet recommendation into a tight budget? The best diet will not work for patients if the pet will not eat it, so true if the pet guardian will not purchase it! More families are struggling following the global pandemic, it behooves us to ensure we can make the best recommendations for both our patients and clients. Communication tools will be utilized to ensure a full history factors in budget, while maintaining professionalism in a judgement-free manner. Attendees will learn to “think outside the bag” in nutrition assessments and recommendations in treating our clients right, while finding the best for our patients. Attendees will learn to assess even the most expensive diets in practice, to ensure they fit the budget of their clients.

An up-to-date review will summarize scientific evidence regarding dosage and current recommendations for EPA+DHA supplementation in conditions such as cardiac disease, epilepsy, and cognitive dysfunction. Examples of calculations will also be used to define EPA+DHA requirements and, if supplementation is required, how much should be used. Differences in sources of Omega-3 fatty acids will be covered, such as vegetable, fish, and algae oils, as well as the limitations with the use of EPA+DHA supplements.
